The Why?

While I'm currently working through my graduate studies in Applied Digital Learning, we have been presented with the opportunity to come up with a "why" statement in the course of Leading Organizational Change. Along with my why statement I will be reflecting on the process and the result of my innovation project.

Why: The Purpose

I aim to cultivate students' skills and knowledge in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to prepare them for careers that are rapidly evolving in today's society by implementing STEM-based projects.

How: The Process

By incorporating STEM-based projects with blended learning, we can create a learning environment that provides hand-on learning experiences that inspire students to explore and excel in STEM disciplines. We will foster critical thinking skills; problem solving skills and prepare students for future careers in high demand fields.

What: The Result

Implementing STEM-based projects within blended learning will give us an avenue to steer our students into deeper engagement and ownership of their learning. We will be able to open up student imagination and creativity all while being aligned with curriculum standards and teaching technological literacy. I would like to explore a partnership with the Exxon Mobile crew and surrounding companies for sponsorship and projects to help build the minds of young students for the future growth of their own business. I would also like to ask for the tools and equipment to conduct in class experiments and curriculum. The benefits of this recommendation solution are to encourage the student’s curiosity and create an environment where learning will become interactive and interesting to students. Along with my proposal I also have a twenty-four-month implementation outline that would meet teachers and students where they are. Starting with phase one that will give us three months to plan, prepare and familiarize ourselves with teaching strategies and identify with project-based learning. The ultimate goal is to gain the interest of our students again and open the space for the to explore new adventures. There have been many lessons taught without the student understanding the purpose of learning and by giving our students real-world experiences and applications we can give them a purpose for learning, a purpose for school, and help them see that they indeed have a future.
