When we take a look inside the classroom, we can often see students lack a hands-on experience when it comes to learning. Based on student participation it is also likely that students are disengaged and not particularly interested in learning. Incorporating STEM projects in the classroom will help students with innovation in a way that they are unable to receive it during whole group instruction. STEM projects foster creativity and provide students the opportunity to think outside the box. By engaging in open-ended projects students can brainstorm ideas, design models and experiment with different solutions. STEM projects will encourage students to develop their own unique ideas and how to approach complex problems.

STEM projects can be designed to address real world problems and societal issues. Students can discuss issues such as sustainability and renewable energy. One of the main things we can cultivate by applying STEM projects is the building of technological literacy. Technology is rapidly changing, and it is crucial for students to adjust. More than often STEM projects use different types of technologies and software in which students can have hands-on experience to get familiar with the tools. Projects such as these will provide adequate preparation for future careers and skills necessary for the increasing rate of technology in today's society. Implementing STEM projects into the classroom will develop teamwork and communication skills amongst students because it allows them to work together towards a common goal. Students can learn how to collaborate and assign task to figure out their solutions.
